Why People in Marital Distress Don’t Pray

In my counseling practice I’ve come across several dysfunctional marriages.  In addition to developing counseling exercises to take a couple in dysfunctional marriage through I prescribe prayer and fasting for them; yes, fasting included.  It is amazing how often people reject this prescription of prayer and fasting for their marriage.  When someone is sick they or their loved ones would readily accept a prescription of prayer and fasting for the sick person and do it fervently.  I wondered then why people would not pray and fast for a sick marriage, and so......

Engage in Relational Worship as a Total Worshipper

Worship is the total interaction between the worshipper and the worshipped.  Sometimes, we take worship to mean that part of the service, where the Praise Team leads the congregation with slow songs and prayers praising and/or thanking God.  So, worship is an area of much misunderstanding among members and among Praise Teams. Let Christ Be Your Backbone

I grew up in an environment where I was taught that I can do anything I set my mind to do.  It was a positive empowering environment.  This attitude was reinforced in college and graduate school and reaffirmed by my successes in business.  I entered ministry with the same can-do attitude believing that I, Kwabena Akufo, can do anything by myself.  Gradually over several years of lay and ordained ministry I have learned that I can do nothing apart from Christ.  I learned the hard way that I need Christ to be......

Remain Apple of God’s Eye for Absolute Protection

Consider the following text: Zechariah 2:8-9  8 For this is what the Lord Almighty says: “After the Glorious One has sent me against the nations that have plundered you—for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye—9 I will surely raise my hand against them so that their slaves will plunder them. g Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me. Zechariah wrote the prophecy in this text when all Israel were in exile in Babylon.  God had allowed Babylon to subdue Judah after Israel’s conquest by Assyria as discipline for......
